Larvae are slow-moving and avoid light. They spend most of their time feeding and can remain in the larval stage for several months to years depending on food availability.

Risks & Benefits

Primarily a household pest that causes damage to textiles and clothing. Larval hairs can cause allergic skin reactions or 'carpet beetle dermatitis' in sensitive individuals.
