Natural Habitat
Damp environments, particularly in houseplants with overwatered soil, greenhouses, and near decomposing organic matter.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on soil fungi, algae, and organic matter, occasionally consuming plant roots. Adults do not feed or only consume liquids.
Behavior Patterns
Weak fliers that are often seen scurrying on soil surfaces or flying near windows/light sources. They have a short lifecycle of about 3 to 4 weeks.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans but can be a nuisance indoors. Larvae can damage the root systems of young seedlings or houseplants if populations are high.
