Natural Habitat
Dark, humid areas in carpets, pet bedding, floor cracks, and outdoor soil where pets rest.
Diet & Feeding
Organic debris found in the environment, specifically 'flea dirt' (dried blood excreted by adult fleas), skin flakes, and other organic matter.
Behavior Patterns
They are negatively phototactic (avoid light) and actively burrow deep into carpet fibers or bedding to avoid dessication. They spin silken cocoons to pupate before emerging as adults.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: Precursors to biting adult fleas that cause irritation, allergic dermatitis, and can transmit tapeworms and diseases like murine typhus. No known benefits.
