Natural Habitat
Exclusively on humans, primarily in coarse body hair such as pubic hair, but can also be found in armpits, facial hair, or eyelashes.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophage; it feeds exclusively on human blood several times a day.
Behavior Patterns
They are relatively sedentary and cling to hair shafts with specialized claw-like legs. They cannot jump or fly and are usually transmitted through close bodily contact or shared personal items like bedding.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include intense itching (pruritus) due to an allergic reaction to their saliva and potential secondary skin infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit diseases.
