Behavior Patterns
Larvae are slow-moving and avoid light (photophobic). They undergo multiple molts, leaving behind hollow skins. The adult stage occurs in spring when they move toward windows to fly outdoors to feed on pollen.
Risks & Benefits
Significant household pest that can damage textiles and stored goods. Larval hairs can cause 'carpet beetle dermatitis' (allergic skin reactions or respiratory irritation) in sensitive individuals.
