Carpet Beetle Larva

Natural Habitat

Commonly found indoors in homes, specifically under baseboards, in carpets, upholstered furniture, and closets where organic materials are present.

Diet & Feeding

Scavengers that feed on dry animal and plant products, including wool, silk, feathers, dead insects, hair, and synthetic fabrics blended with natural fibers.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae prefer dark, undisturbed areas and are generally slow-moving. They undergo a complete metamorphosis from egg to adult beetle, with the larval stage often lasting several months of continuous feeding.

Risks & Benefits

They do not bite humans but are significant household pests that cause damage to clothing, blankets, and carpets. Some individuals may experience 'carpet beetle dermatitis,' an allergic reaction to the larval hairs (setae) which can cause itchy, red bumps on the skin.
