Behavior Patterns

Larvae are slow-moving and avoid light. They undergo several molts, leaving behind empty brownish skins. Infestations can spread through a building as larvae crawl from room to room searching for food.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Major household pest that can damage carpets, clothing, and upholstery. Their defensive hairs (setae) can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some people. Benefits: Not typically beneficial in human dwellings, but in nature, they help recycle organic matter.
