Snow Flea

Found in leaf litter and soil, often emerging onto the surface of snow in winter months.

They feed on fungi, bacteria, algae, and decaying plant matter within the soil.

They are active in winter due to a protein in their blood that prevents freezing. They move by flicking a tail-like organ (furcula) to jump long distances.

They are harmless to humans, pets, and homes. They benefit the ecosystem by breaking down organic matter and returning nutrients to the soil.
