Natural Habitat
Found globally in human dwellings, typically nesting in mattress seams, bed frames, cracks, crevices, and behind wallpaper in sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on animal blood, primarily from humans, using a piercing-sucking mouthpart.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal insects that emerge at night to feed. They go through five nymphal stages (instars) requiring a blood meal to molt into each successive stage and to produce eggs as adults.
Risks & Benefits
They do not knownly transmit diseases, but their bites can cause itchy red welts, allergic reactions, insomnia, and psychological distress. They provide no known ecological benefits to human environments.
