Keratin and protein-rich materials including wool, silk, leather, feathers, hair, and dead insects.

Active crawlers that avoid light, often hiding in dark crevices and feeding voraciously on fabrics; they molt several times before pupating.

Risks include damaging clothing, carpets, and upholstery by chewing holes in natural fibers. They do not bite humans or transmit diseases, though shed hairs can sometimes trigger allergic reactions or skin irritation.
