Natural Habitat
Damp, humid environments such as bathrooms, kitchens, basements, wall voids, and often found near books, paper, or stored food. Outdoors, they live under bark, in leaf litter, or on foliage.
Diet & Feeding
Molds, fungi, starch, glue, book bindings, cereals, dead insects, and other organic matter.
Behavior Patterns
Psocids are often found in damp, dark environments. They do not bite or sting but can be a nuisance if populations grow large indoors. They are generally scavengers and can feed on a variety of organic materials.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans. They can cause minor damage to books, paper, and stored food products. In large numbers, they can be an indicator of high humidity and mold issues in a building. They are not known to transmit diseases.
