Case-bearing Clothes Moth Larva (or Housebearer)

Natural Habitat

Commonly found indoors on walls, baseboards, and in closets, especially in warm or humid environments.

Diet & Feeding

Feeds on natural fibers (wool, silk), hair, lint, spider webs, and other organic debris containing keratin.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a distinctive flat, pumpkin-seed-shaped protective case out of silk and gathered debris (sand, soil, fibers). It drags this case around with it as it moves, retracting its body inside when threatened. It is nocturnal and prefers dark corners.

Risks & Benefits

Risk: They are considered household pests because they can damage clothing, carpets, and upholstery made of natural fibers. They do not bite or sting humans. Benefit: None significant to humans, though they play a minor role in breaking down detritus in nature.
