Natural Habitat
Human skin tissue, specifically burrowing within the stratum corneum (outer layer of skin).
Diet & Feeding
Consumes skin tissue fluid and epidermal cells.
Behavior Patterns
Fertilized females burrow into the upper layer of the skin, laying eggs along the tunnels. The eggs hatch into larvae within 3-4 days and mature into adults in about 10-15 days.
Risks & Benefits
Causes scabies, a highly contagious skin condition characterized by severe itching and pimple-like rash. Secondary bacterial skin infections can occur from severe scratching. No ecosystem benefits.
