Natural Habitat
Frequently found in human dwellings, particularly in cracks and crevices of bed frames, mattresses, and furniture near sleeping areas.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Mainly nocturnal; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. Their life cycle involves five nymphal stages, each requiring a blood meal to molt into the next stage.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy bites and potential allergic reactions; they are a significant nuisance and can cause psychological distress. They do not currently have any known ecosystem benefits and are not known to transmit diseases.
