Size: 1 to 7 millimeters (adults are roughly the size of an apple seed)

Natural Habitat
Typically found in cracks and crevices near sleeping areas, such as mattresses, bed frames, and headboards within residential homes, hotels, and apartments.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate blood-feeders, primarily consuming human blood; they may also feed on other warm-blooded animals if a human host is unavailable.
Behavior Patterns
They are nocturnal, emerging from hiding at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for months without a blood meal.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, loss of sleep, and secondary skin infections from scratching; they are not known to transmit diseases. They offer no known ecosystem benefits in human environments and are considered a major domestic pest.
