Casemaking Clothes Moth (Larva/Case)
Scientific Name: Tinea pellionella
Order & Family: Order Lepidoptera, Family Tineidae
Size: Larval cases are typically 1/4 to 1/2 inch (6 to 12 mm) in length.

Natural Habitat
Indoor environments, specifically closets, wardrobes, and upholstery where natural fibers are present.
Diet & Feeding
Natural fibers of animal origin including wool, silk, fur, feathers, and hair. They consume the protein keratin.
Behavior Patterns
The larva constructs a silken tube or case covered with debris and fibers from its food source. It carries this case while moving and feeding, eventually pupating inside it.
Risks & Benefits
A significant household pest that causes physical damage to clothing, blankets, and rugs. They offer no benefits to the human ecosystem and are considered destructive.
