Natural Habitat

Primarily indoor environments close to human hosts; typically found in mattresses, box springs, crevices in bed frames, and furniture.

Diet & Feeding

Hematophagous (feed exclusively on blood), preferring humans but will feed on other warm-blooded animals if necessary.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and secretive; they hide in tight cracks and crevices during the day and emerge at night to feed. They are attracted to warmth and carbon dioxide.

Risks & Benefits

Significant nuisance pest; bites can cause itchy welts, allergic reactions, and significant psychological distress/anxiety. While they are not known to transmit major diseases directly, scratching bites can lead to secondary skin infections. Ecologically, they offer no known benefits to humans.
