Widely distributed indoors and outdoors, found in kitchens, pantries, warehouses, and locations with high-protein food sources.

Strictly feed on animal-based products such as cured meats, dried fish, pet food, leather, wool, silk, and dead insects.

Larvae are active crawlers that prefer dark, undisturbed areas. They molt several times and, when ready to pupate, will bore into hard materials כמו wood or cork to create a protected chamber.

They are significant pests that cause economic damage to stored food and textile products. They do not bite or transmit diseases, but their hairy bodies can cause minor allergic reactions in some sensitive individuals.
