Natural Habitat

Inhabits dark, moist, and secluded areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and behind appliances or inside wall voids.

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous scavengers that feed on crumbs, food scraps, grease, starch, glue, decaying organic matter, and even paper products.

Behavior Patterns

Primarily nocturnal and highly social; they undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult). They are fast runners and tend to aggregate in tight crevices.

Risks & Benefits

Significant household pest. They can contaminate food surfaces, trigger asthma and allergies via cast skins/droppings, and mechanically transmit pathogens like Salmonella. They provide no direct benefits to the indoor ecosystem.
