Size: 3 mm to 10 mm (approximately 1/8 to 3/8 inch) in length.

Natural Habitat
Inhabits moist environments containing decaying organic matter, most commonly found in gelatinous slime layers inside drains, sewers, septic tanks, and damp soil.
Diet & Feeding
Feeds on sludge, nutrient-rich organic matter, algae, bacteria, and fungi found in biofilm inside pipes.
Behavior Patterns
The larvae remain submerged in the slimy biofilm of drains, breathing through a small respiratory tube. They undergo a complete metamorphosis from egg to adult in about 7 to 28 days depending on temperature.
Risks & Benefits
Generally non-biting and not known to transmit human diseases. However, they can be a nuisance in large numbers and may indicate an underlying plumbing issue or buildup of organic debris that needs cleaning.
