Booklouse

Indoor environments with high humidity, damp areas, books, paper products, pantries, and damp walls.

Microscopic molds, fungi, starchy pastes used in bookbindings, pollen, and dry stored foods.

They are wingless, move quickly when disturbed, and thrive in warm, humid conditions where mold can grow. They reproduce rapidly, often parthenogenetically indoors.

They do not bite humans, transmit diseases, or feed on wood like termites, but their presence can indicate a high humidity problem and potential mold growth. They can occasionally contaminate stored food products.
