Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Keratin-containing materials like wool, silk, fur, feathers, leather, pet hair, dried insects, and sometimes synthetic fibers or processed foods.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae are typically slow-moving and hide in dark areas. They are destructive feeders on stored products and natural fibers. Adults are attracted to light and feed on pollen and nectar outdoors.

Risks & Benefits

Risks: Can cause significant damage to textiles, carpets, clothing, furs, and stored food products. Can trigger allergic reactions in some sensitive individuals due to their shed skins and hairs. No direct benefits to humans or ecosystems in an indoor infestation context.
