Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding
Adults mostly do not feed or consume nectar. Larvae (leatherjackets) eat decaying organic matter, plant roots, and fungi.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are short-lived and primarily active at night or during twilight. They are often attracted to porch lights and windows.
Risks & Benefits
Harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting. Benefit ecosystems as a food source for birds and bats; however, larvae can occasionally damage turf or crops.
