Huntsman Spider

Natural Habitat

Typically found in tropical and temperate regions worldwide, living in crevices, under loose bark on trees, in logs, or inside houses and sheds.

Diet & Feeding

Mainly insects and other invertebrates; occasionally small lizards or frogs. They are active hunters that do not build webs to catch prey.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal hunters known for their incredible speed and ability to walk sideways. They are often called ‘crab spiders’ due to their leg orientation. They exhibit maternal care, with females often guarding their egg sacs.

Risks & Benefits

Generally beneficial to the ecosystem as they control pest populations like cockroaches. While they have venom and can bite if provoked, their venom is not considered medically significant to healthy humans, usually causing only localized pain and swelling.
