Behavior Patterns

Diurnal but can be active at night; they are non-venomous but very defensive, often flattening their bodies and biting repeatedly if threatened or handled. They are excellent swimmers.

Non-venomous and poses no lethal threat to humans, though bites can be painful and bleed due to an anticoagulant in their saliva. They benefit ecosystems by controlling populations of fish and amphibians.
