Size: Typically 12 to 19 mm (0.5 to 0.75 inches) in length, excluding appendages.

Natural Habitat
Found worldwide in moist, humid, and dark environments such as bathrooms, basements, kitchens, and attics. They prefer areas with temperature ranges between 70°F and 80°F (21°C - 26°C).
Diet & Feeding
Polyphagous feeders that consume carbohydrates such as sugars and starches. Their diet includes paper, glue, book bindings, photos, sugar, hair, dandruff, and dried meat.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive, they move quickly in a wiggling motion resembling a fish swimming (hence the name). They are primitive insects that do not undergo metamorphosis but molt throughout their entire adult lives.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to human health (they do not bite or transmit diseases), but considered household pests because their feeding habits can damage books, wallpaper, stored dry foods, and clothing. They can also attract other predators like spiders.
