Natural Habitat
Typically found on indoor and outdoor plants, particularly on stems, leaf undersides, and in crevices where humidity is higher.
Diet & Feeding
They feed on plant sap by piercing plant tissue with their mouthparts, often secreting a sticky substance called honeydew.
Behavior Patterns
Mealybugs tend to congregate in clustered colonies. They are generally slow-moving. Adult males fly but are rarely seen; the females are wingless and stay on the host plant.
Risks & Benefits
Risks: They are a significant agricultural and horticultural pest, damaging plants by stuntng growth, causing yellowing leaves, and encouraging mold growth (sooty mold). Benefits: Some species are used in biological control studies, but generally, they are considered pests.
