Natural Habitat
Inhabits human dwellings, specifically in cracks, crevices, mattress seams, and bedding close to hosts.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily targeting humans but will bite other mammals or birds.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal parasites that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo five nymphal stages, requiring a blood meal to molt into each subsequent stage.
Risks & Benefits
Significant household pest. Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, insomnia, and psychological distress. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans but cause significant economic impact and stress.
