Natural Habitat
High humidity environments, kitchens, pantries, and damp basements where mold or fungi are present.
Diet & Feeding
Primarily feeds on mold, fungi, and occasionally organic materials high in fat and protein such as seeds, nuts, and cheeses.
Behavior Patterns
They reproduce rapidly in warm, moist conditions. They are often noticed when they congregate in large numbers on dark surfaces, creating what looks like "moving dust."
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite humans or pets but can cause allergic reactions (dermatitis or respiratory issues) in sensitive individuals. They may also contaminate food sources. They serve as a sign of underlying moisture or mold issues in a building.
