Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on natural fibers (wool, silk, fur, feathers) and dried organic matter; adults feed on pollen and nectar.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are scavengers that move slowly and avoid light, often hidden in floor cracks or textiles. Adults are attracted to light and are often seen near windows in the spring.
Risks & Benefits
Non-venomous and does not bite; however, the larvae are significant pests that can damage household items. The larval hairs can cause allergic skin reactions (dermatitis) in sensitive individuals.
