Case-bearing Clothes Moth (larva/case)

Natural Habitat

Typically found indoors in closets, carpets, wardrobes, and upholstery; prefers dark, undisturbed areas where natural fibers are present.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on keratin-rich natural fibers such as wool, fur, feathers, silk, felt, and sometimes hair or heavily soiled natural fabrics.

Behavior Patterns

Larvae construct a portable silken case incorporating debris and fibers from their food source, dragging it with them as they feed. They are rarely seen moving in daylight, preferring darkness. The adult moths avoid light and tend to scuttle rather than fly actively.

Risks & Benefits

Considered a household pest. The primary risk is damage to clothing, carpets, rugs, and upholstery made of natural fibers. They do not bite or sting humans and pose no direct health threat, but can cause significant economic loss through material damage.
