Natural Habitat
Indoors, typically found in homes, museums, and warehouses where they can feed on natural fibers, furs, feathers, wool, and stored food products.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on natural fibers like wool, silk, fur, feathers, and dried animal products. Adult beetles feed on pollen and nectar outdoors but will seek shelter and lay eggs indoors.
Behavior Patterns
Larvae are the damaging stage, feeding in dark, undisturbed areas. Adults are attracted to light and often found near windows. They undergo complete metamorphosis.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include damage to textiles, clothing, carpets, and museum specimens. They are not known to bite humans or transmit diseases. There are no significant benefits associated with carpet beetles in household environments.
