Natural Habitat
Coarse hair on the human body, most commonly the pubic region, but also armpits, facial hair, or eyelashes.
Diet & Feeding
Blood (obligate hematophagy); they feed exclusively on human blood several times a day.
Behavior Patterns
They are slow-moving and use specialized claws to grasp thick hair shafts. They cannot jump or fly and require close physical contact (usually sexual) to transfer between hosts.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include intense itching (pruritus) due to an allergic reaction to their saliva and potential secondary skin infections from scratching. They are not known to transmit diseases.
