Household Casebearer

Natural Habitat

Typically found inside residential buildings, specifically on walls and floors in humid areas like bathrooms, garages, or basements.

Diet & Feeding

Larvae feed on organic fibers such as spider silk, wool, human hair, fur, and dead insect remains.

Behavior Patterns

The larva constructs a protective silk-lined case covered in substrate like dust and sand. It is 'amphibious' in the sense that the larva can protrude its head from either end of the case to feed or move. They undergo complete metamorphosis inside the case.

Risks & Benefits

They are considered minor household pests because they can damage natural fiber textiles and spider webs. They pose no direct physical health risk to humans or pets.
