Lumbricina (Suborder)
- Order & Family
- Order Haplotaxida; Family Lumbricidae (common pink earthworms)
- Size
- 1 mm to several centimeters depending on life stage; this specimen appears to be a small juvenile or a fragment typically 0.5 to 2.0 cm long.
Natural Habitat
Typically found in moist soil rich in organic matter, though they may wander onto surfaces like towels or floors if carried in by shoes or during heavy rain.
Diet & Feeding
Decomposing organic matter, including decaying leaves, soil minerals, and microorganisms.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and subterranean. They move via peristaltic contractions. If found indoors, it is usually accidental, as they require moisture to breathe through their skin and will quickly desiccate in dry air.
