Natural Habitat
In and around human sleeping areas, including mattresses, bed frames, cracks, and crevices in bedrooms.
Diet & Feeding
Exclusively blood (obligate hematophages), primarily targeting humans but also feeding on other warm-blooded animals.
Behavior Patterns
Mainly nocturnal, emerging at night to feed on sleeping hosts. They are highly resilient and can survive for months without a blood meal. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin rashes, psychological distress, and allergic reactions to bites. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans. There are no ecological benefits in human environments; they are considered a significant pest.
