Varied Carpet Beetle

Commonly found in households, particularly in carpets, upholstery, closets, and air ducts; outdoors they are found on flowering plants.

Larvae feed on natural fibers such as wool, silk, feathers, and fur, as well as dead insects; adults feed on pollen and nectar.

They undergo complete metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult); adult beetles are attracted to light and are often seen near windows during spring.

Potential household pests as larvae can damage fabrics and natural textiles; they pose no direct health risk to humans, though larval hairs can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some individuals.
