Natural Habitat
Damp areas rich in organic matter, such as bathroom drains, kitchen sinks, sewers, and stagnant water.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on the gelatinous film of organic sludge and bacteria found in drains; adults primarily consume liquid carbohydrates or water.
Behavior Patterns
Poor fliers that typically crawl or take short, hopping flights. They are most active at night and are frequently found resting on walls near plumbing fixtures.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans as they do not bite or transmit diseases through stings, but they can be a nuisance and potentially transport bacteria from sewage onto clean surfaces.
