Pubic louse (Crab louse)

Size: 1.1 to 1.8 mm (about the size of a pinhead)

Natural Habitat
Primarily humans, specifically the pubic hair region, but can occasionally be found in other coarse body hair like eyelashes or armpits.
Diet & Feeding
Obligate blood-feeders, consuming human blood multiple times a day.
Behavior Patterns
They are sedentary and move slowly. They use specialized claws to grasp thick hair shafts and remain close to the skin for feeding. They cannot jump or fly.
Risks & Benefits
Can cause intense itching (pruritus) and skin irritation (pediculosis pubis). They do not transmit diseases, but infestation can lead to secondary skin infections from scratching. They provide no ecosystem benefits.
