Natural Habitat
Commonly found indoors in houses, particularly in kitchens, wardrobes, and damp areas. Also found outdoors in bird nests and leaf litter.
Diet & Feeding
Larvae feed on a wide variety of dried plant and animal materials, including wool, fur, feathers, hair, cork, seeds, and cereal grains.
Behavior Patterns
Adults are nocturnal and tend to run rather than fly when disturbed. They are attracted to light but mostly hide during the day. The larvae spin silken tubes or cases as they feed.
Risks & Benefits
Generally considered a pest. Risks include damage to carpets, clothing (wool), upholstery, and pantry food items. They pose no direct health risk to humans (do not bite or sting).
