Demodex Mite (Face Mite)
Scientific Name: Demodex folliculorum or Demodex brevis
Order & Family: Trombidiformes: Demodicidae
Size: Microscopic; typically 0.1mm to 0.4mm in length.

Natural Habitat
Human skin, specifically inside hair follicles and sebaceous glands (often on the face including eyelashes, nose, and cheeks).
Diet & Feeding
Sebum (skin oils) and dead skin cells.
Behavior Patterns
They are nocturnal, emerging from hair follicles at night to mate on the skin's surface before returning to the follicle to lay eggs. They move slowly using four pairs of stubby legs.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless commensals found on almost all adults. Overpopulation can cause demodicosis, contributing to conditions like rosacea, blepharitis (eyelid inflammation), or skin irritation.
