Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily feeding on human blood, usually at night.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and are attracted to the carbon dioxide and warmth produced by sleeping humans. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and require a blood meal to molt.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin rashes, psychological distress, and allergic reactions to bites. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans but are considered a significant public health pest. There are no known benefits.
