Natural Habitat
Typically found in bird nests (eaves, chimneys, vents) or rodent burrows; they enter homes when their primary host leaves or dies.
Diet & Feeding
The blood of birds (primary host) or rodents. While they may bite humans, they cannot survive or reproduce on human blood alone.
Behavior Patterns
They are highly mobile, phototactic (attracted to light), and most active at night. They tend to congregate in areas where humans rest, such as beds or chairs, after migrating from an outdoor nest.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include intense itching, skin irritation, and dermatitis from bites. They do not typically transmit diseases to humans but can cause significant emotional distress and sleep deprivation. There are no known benefits to the indoor environment.
