Diet & Feeding
Obligate hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans, typically at night.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and require a blood meal to molt. They detect hosts via body heat and carbon dioxide.
Risks & Benefits
Risks include itchy skin welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress/insomnia. While they are not known vectors of disease, their presence is a significant nuisance. They offer no ecosystem benefits in human environments.
