Fruit fly larva (Maggot)

Overripe fruits, vegetables, decaying organic matter, and moist drainage areas.

Yeasts and bacteria growing on fermenting or decaying organic material.

Larvae tunnel through soft food sources to feed before migrating to a drier area to pupate and transform into adult flies.

Generally considered a nuisance pest in homes. While they do not bite, they can contaminate food with bacteria; however, they are highly beneficial as model organisms in genetic research.
