Primarily feeds on mold, fungi, and products high in fat or protein such as grains, cheese, and dried meats.
Behavior Patterns
They congregate in large numbers where food sources are available. Their life cycle is rapid in humid conditions, moving from egg to adult in under 20 days.
Risks & Benefits
They do not bite or sting humans, but they can cause 'grocer's itch' (allergic dermatitis) or respiratory irritation in sensitive individuals. They indicate a moisture or mold problem in the home.
