Natural Habitat

Indoor environments, specifically in close proximity to human sleeping areas such as mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and upholstered furniture.

Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophagous (blood-feeders), primarily targeting humans but also feeding on other warm-blooded animals.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal pests that hide in cracks and crevices during the day. They emerge at night to feed. The reddish-brown spots shown are 'fecal spotting' or crushed insects containing digested blood.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, secondary skin infections from scratching, and significant psychological distress or insomnia. They are not known to transmit diseases to humans.
