Mandatory hematophages, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

They are primarily nocturnal and elusive, emerging from hiding at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and require blood meals to advance through life stages.

They are significant structural pests that cause psychological distress, sleep deprivation, and itchy allergic reactions from bites. While not known to transmit diseases to humans, infestations are difficult and expensive to eradicate.
