Nocturnal parasites that hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo a hemimetabolous life cycle with five nymphal stages that each require a blood meal to molt.

Risks include physical reactions like itching and insomnia, as well as mental health strain. While they do not transmit diseases, their bites can cause allergic reactions and secondary skin infections.
