Natural Habitat

Found globally indoors, specifically in sleeping areas such as mattresses, box springs, headboards, and cracks in furniture near human hosts.

Diet & Feeding

Strictly hematophagous (blood-feeding); they primarily feed on human blood but can also bite other warm-blooded animals.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive; they hide during the day and emerge at night to feed. They undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph stages, adult) and require a blood meal to molt at each stage.

Risks & Benefits

Risks include itchy allergic reactions to bites, sleep deprivation, and psychological distress. While they do not transmit diseases, heavy infestations can lead to secondary skin infections. There are no ecological benefits in a domestic human setting.
